How To Control Negative Thoughts

The mind is a very important aspect in man. Never Under estimate the power of thoughts especially negative ones.

In my last post, I laid emphasis on the fact that you are what you think. I said a man’s life is constantly shaped according to how he thinks.

Taking a look at how the photographic camera works, there is a similarity with the mind.
fear, frustration, worries, stress

When you take a snap shot with your camera, light is reflected on the film inside the camera.

The reflected light creates the exact image of the object on the film.
When you develop the prints, you have the exact picture you snapped. That’s interesting!!

What a striking similarity between the mind and a camera. Whatever images are impressed on your mind, if developed, is printed for you in reality.

Remember “For as a man thinks in his mind, so he is”

Today I’ll be writing specifically about those thoughts that nobody should accommodate.

Your mind was designed to be a very busy place. Different images go in and out every second. So it’s very possible that you get some negative flashes in your head.

The bone of contention is that you should never let such thoughts remain.
Do you ruminate over negative thoughts or you discard them immediately?

What do I mean by Negative Thoughts?

Every measure of progress that man experienced started from the mind; the air plane, the radio, etc.. Likewise, some setbacks that man has experienced started from the mind.

Generally, you can consider negative thoughts as something naturally undesirable, unfavourable, potentially damaging, and unpleasant, etc.

As a Christian, It’s more than that. Negative thoughts encompass those things that don’t glorify God.
They are thoughts that either make you feel God is not the Almighty or make you want to fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Note: Some desires may appear desirable to the natural man but if such desire doesn't consider “God”, it’s negative.

In the next paragraph, I’ll classify negative thoughts and show you some practical way out of it. The Classification is just for clarity purpose.

These are thoughts that make you feel demoralised. It brings about low self-esteem.

When I was younger, I used to feel like a loser because some people who happen to be so close to me would always tell me worlds like “I can’t do it”, “you are too young”, “and you are not good enough”, e.t.c.
“Be careful what you listen to, they go a deep into your subconscious and develop”- Ologundudu Abraham

Truly, I was young. I believed every single word and these words became my primary thoughts for a long time until one day when I got the real knowledge of who I am.
Knowing who you are in Christ saves you from unnecessary stress and pain.
“My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge” – Hosea 4:6
You can never grow beyond your knowledge.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13
Oh yes! You can do all things (in Christ) through Christ who strengthens you.
You can achieve that big dream, ambition, goal, etc. All you need is lean on Jesus.
“And Jesus said to him, “If you can! All things are possible for one who believes” – Mark 9:23
Shun every idea of impossibilities. In every step you take, see Jesus, believe in him and know that Jesus Can’t fail and you can’t fail.

It shocking to know that some of you still believe you deserve to live an average life. You never think big. You just want a ‘normal’ life. You actually confuse moderation with average.

NEWSFLASH: You were not created to think small.

Think big and grow rich. Grow rich in health, finance, academics, business, career, etc.

“How far you go in life is determined by how big you can think and Implement” - Ologundudu Abraham

".... “is it not written in your law, I said you are gods”” - John 10:34
Princes will travel on foot and slaves on horses back because of identity switch.
Study the bible to know who you are in Christ.

Rejection can be a deep topic. You feel God won’t accept you because of one act of sin; that’s what the devil really wants.
The reasons why a believer in Christ will have thoughts of rejection is because:
a. He/she doesn't understand God personality; Merciful, Faithful, Just, etc.
b. He/she doesn't know what God is saying about his children.

Thoughts of Rejection from God.

Like i always say; it’s only in the mind. The truth is that you will only work function in the sphere of the knowledge you possess.

During my early days in the Christian Faith, I had addictions. I read different articles on blogs and websites.

The more I tried to stop, the more I got engrossed in it. It was a thorn in my flesh as Apostle Paul described it in 2 Corinthians 1:27
This thorn made me stop praying. My study life decreased drastically. I felt alone.
I was always bearing the thought that God wasn't happy with me. Therefore he wouldn't want me coming to him in my filth and sin.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”….”
Man was designed to totally depend on God. All you need to do when you think you are rejected by God is to go to him in Prayers.

It may not make sense but that is the truth. The best way to overcome the thoughts is simply accessing him through faith.
Never feel Like God will reject you. You are God’s own elect. He loves you. He sent His son Jesus to die for the sake of humanity. All you need to do is remember that Jesus didn't die in vain.

Thoughts of Rejection from Man

Some people may find this very difficult to handle. I think it’s because they can see their friends, colleagues, relations but can’t see God.
One thing I have learnt so far is that rejection is in the mind. It doesn't exist. I’ve never felt rejected by anybody. I don’t really know how it feels. But I know surely that the solution lies within you.
Some tips include:
a. Know your self-worth
b. Develop your self-worth
c. Don’t live on people’s affirmation

A believer in Jesus the Christ should never feel insecure.
When you gave your life back to Jesus, you now live in Jesus and He lives in you. Everything about you is insured and secured in Jesus. Be it health, finance, career, etc.
The scriptures says “and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified in him” – Romans 817

As an heir of God, Joint heir with Christ, you are entitled to all that God has. You are entitled to the treasury of God; don’t be scared of poverty.
You are entitled to the angels guarding and ministering unto you.
You are a little god on earth. You are in the Royal lineage of God.
Why feel scared Why feel? insecure Don’t you know who you are?

As I said earlier, let’s keep in mind that these thoughts will come but the most important thing is do you let it remain or do you discard them.

If you are a Christian; you believe in the divinity of God, You believe God has a son and he died for the sins of the world, you believe in the trinity, you believe in baptism by water immersion and of the Holy spirit, the accuser of the brethren (Satan) will always rear his ugly head to make sure you fall.

“Be Sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour”
The devil may bring thoughts (temptation) of Stealing, fornication, murder, lying, cheating, envy, jealousy, etc.

One practical step I’ve always taken when such temptation comes my way is to ask myself the “WWJD” question.

WWJD stands for What Will Jesus Do E.g. Would Jesus have stolen?
Jesus overcame the devil by quoting the scriptures that were alive in him.
There is no better way to overcome the devils tricks if you don’t have the infallible word of God in you.

Many Christians are lazy. They hardly study and their prayer life is not effective so they fall victim of the enemies traps.
“…for we are the temple of the living God …” – 2 Corinthians 6:16
Mind what you take into your body; into your mind.

How often do you have negative thoughts How do you treat them Let me know.

One thing i want you to know is that you should not feel condemned because based on your comment i sense that you don't seek pleasure in these thoughts. The only way to break loose from the works of the flesh is to always make sure you carry God's presence everywhere. You need to be proactive and not reactive. It's a bold step to comment. It's not a co-incidence that you saw this post. Please send me a mail.(check the contact page for details)

I would love to talk with you. Read 1cor 6:17
