It’s a new year. Year 2013. We made it. Glory to God. Not everyone made it, but you and i have been given the privilege to see this new year.
We all should be grateful to God.
It’s a new year, everyone is excited. I'm excited. New year, new me. New year, new habits. New year, new resolutions.
Everyone is catching the excitement. It’s getting hot everywhere.
People smiling, Families are happy, and majority are having good hopes for the year ahead.
The new year has given so many people hopes to start afresh. The new year has presented itself as an opportunity for some of us to make up for our wrongs in 2012.
2013 is looking so promising to everyone now. Some people want to make more money, get a new job, get married, build houses, graduate from the university, build a better relationship with family.
Everyone is being expectant and it’s a good thing.
Definitely, people are coming up with new year resolutions. I’m having resolutions. It has become a tradition.
Some people see it as something they must do. Not everyone really have a genuine reason for making them.
Everyone is thinking of what not to do and what to do. Some people take extra steps to draft a plan for the year ahead.
The Big IssueEvery year, the same thing is being repeated. You make resolutions but you don’t live up to it. I’m really concerned about how we keep doing the same thing and no result is showing forth.
I Want this, I want that. I will do this, I won’t do that. I’m going there, I'm not going there but it seems like it just ends there. Nothing happens afterwards.
As much as you really want to, you don’t get the desired results.
Do you know the saying that “zeal without knowledge is a runaway horse.” The fact that we don’t get results from our resolutions doesn’t mean we are lazy, without zeal and living an aimless life.
WHAT WE SHOULD KNOW.
Enthusiasm without direction is like wild fire and leads to frustration. Sometimes we are required to put little things in place and that’s all.
Some people don’t really know what resolutions are. The bad part is that they never bother to find out. Directly or indirectly, they choose to remain ignorant.
WHAT DOES RESOLUTION MEAN?There could be series of meanings that has been attached to the word “Resolution.”
I understand resolution as a state of being committed to ones personal goals, objectives, and plans.
It could also involve making changes to old habits especially when the old habits are bad.
Resolution is not a goal but simply making vows or determination to be committed to that goal.
Before you begin to make resolutions, you must have goals.
WHY DO I FAIL?At the beginning of the year you feel energetic. Your spirit is high. You feel the joy of a new beginning. Your hopes are rekindled. In fact, you are the most motivated person in the world. The zeal to do things is high.
But You get carried away by the excitement that you fail to focus. The first Three Quarters of the year is gone and you haven’t done up to what you expected. You’ve been working, making efforts, but it seems not to be working out.
You are panicking. You are destabilized. You’ve forgotten the positive affirmations you had when the year was still fresh. Gradually you are loosing hope. Finally you gave up.
The only explanation i have for this is that you have run out of motivation.
Nothing drives you anymore. No more zeal.
As gas is to automobiles, so is motivation to we humans. We constantly need to motivate ourselves.
WHAT IS THE WAY OUT?First thing we must know is that reading books, listening to audio tapes don’t motivate. Yes. They don’t motivate. Did i hear you ask why?
This is it. motivation is a spirit that is created inside you, functions inside you which makes you do what you do.
Reading books and the likes only inspire you. They feed you with desires. They make You feel Like Doing lots of things.
If you read a lot, you’ll understand what I'm saying.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying those books are bad or they aren’t useful. I’m trying to make you understand that Don’t just stop at just reading the books.
Apply them. Let it change you. Let Those things constantly drive you.
Inspiration leads to motivation. When you are inspired, it is left to you to decide if you want to convert it into motivation or not.
I know people who are so dedicated to reading but still living a life without purpose.
There is a saying “Readers are Leaders” but i tell my friends that “Readers who make what they’ve read part of their lives are leaders”
HOW DO I STAY MOTIVATED?There are times when i feel so reluctant to study. I just want to do nothing. But immediately I remind myself of how i promised to Graduate with a first class honor.
How i told myself that the worst result i could graduate with is a second class upper. Suddenly i feel compelled to study more. These principle works for me and I'm approaching my dreams.
The reason why i always succeed in motivating myself is because i understand purpose.
When i constantly remind myself of why I'm in school and why it’s really important for me to do my best is a pointer to the fact that i understand my purpose.
Likewise, if you understand the purpose for setting a resolution, you’ll never run out of motivation. Challenges come your way and you’ll say no.
No pain, no gain. No pressure, no treasure.
If you can constantly remind yourself of the reason for which you set those targets, you will never run out of motivation.
Until you understand purpose you will not perform at your full potentials.
The strength to do whatever you want you do is within you. Will you use it or keep it?
